The theme of Reno Rodeo 2011 is “We Rodeo for the Kids”. The Reno Rodeo Foundation has always been committed to supporting local children’s charities. Since 1986 they have donated over $5.1 million. Mike Lucke, Reno Rodeo President, came up with the concept that “We Rodeo for the Kids” to remind the community that the money raised through the Reno Rodeo supports kids in our area and we are happy that we have been able to make a difference in the lives of so many kids over the years.
We have incorporated the tagline "We Rodeo for the Kids” in all of our Reno Rodeo advertising and marketing so we decided to feature local kids in our television commercial this year. We had 130 kids apply within two days to be in our commercial and we had about 45 show up on the day of the commercial shoot.
The morning of the commercial shoot was a lot of fun. All the kids showed up in their best western wear ready to be stars. One young lady even brought her pony. The outfits the kids wore were fantastic! There was a little boot-envy from the grownups because the kids cowboy boots were so much cooler than the grownup boots we were all wearing. Kids get to have all the fun!
I had a great time at the commercial shoot hanging out with the little buckaroos. The kids were excited and our crew was just as fired up to be there so everyone enjoyed the experience of the commercial shoot.
My friend Ricky’s kids were two of our stars that day. I haven’t seen Ricky and his wife for a few years, which makes me so sad to say because I absolutely adore them and their family. Growing up is hard sometimes. It is hard to stay in touch and spend time with your friends as you get older. Life happens and it gets harder to make time to have fun with friends when you have so many other obligations. It has been too long since I have spent time with my friends Ricky and April, so you can’t imagine how excited I was when I saw Ricky and April’s sons show up for the casting call and the commercial shoot. It was great to spend time with their family again and catch up on life. It made me realize how much I miss them and we are now making plans to go have pizza soon and stay in touch better.

Now we have all of the video in the can for the Reno Rodeo commercial. We start editing the commercial this week. I can’t wait to see the final product. The commercial shoot was a big success and the final television commercial will start airing on 5/19. I will post it as soon as it is on YouTube.
