A year ago today I was at the Vatican

We woke up early so we could make it to the 6:30am breakfast and our 7:30am departure.  Our first stop was Vatican City.  It was amazing!  We had the best tour guide.  The greatest part about traveling with the tour group was that we got to skip lines and go right into museums and historical sites.  So we skipped the line and got right in.  My first impression when I went into Vatican City was holy moly that is a lot of security, my second impression was wow, what a magnificent place with a very rich history.
We toured the Vatican and the Sistine Chapel.  My favorite part was the hall of maps, and the really cute security guards at the Vatican they all looked like models.   The Sistine Chapel was also amazing but it was hard to really grasp how amazing it was and to really enjoy Michelangelo’s ceiling painting and The Last Judgment because of the crowds, it was a little overwhelming.  Then we went to St. Peter’s Square and the Basilica.  It was so hard to believe these engineering marvels, and that they could build such amazing buildings without electricity, cranes and of course building permits.

Then we went to see the Colosseum and the Roman Forum.  Everything we saw was awe inspiring.  It rained on and off all day but it was a blessing because there were less crowds out looking at the sites.

After our tours with the group we set off on our own to go and explore the Roman piazzas.  We saw the Spanish Steps, Piazza Navona, Parliament, and Pantheon.  Then we got lost, like we always do, so we used our families circling in technique to get back to our hotel.  We got a lot of extra walking in but it felt nice after our big Italian meals.  I absolutely L-O-V-E Rome!
